Savoring Each Drop

I've written and re-written this email to you at least 4 times already, Reader.

I had all these stories and tips I wanted to share -- but honestly, it just feels like that time of year where we should mark and be present in the transition of one season to another.

Life moves so fast. I want to savor each drop.

It's been a really busy end of summer here on the beautiful north shore of Long Island.

Since photography is one of my favorite (very) amateur hobbies outside of my business, I want to share some of my favorite moments from this summer.

I'm sure you're getting back into the swing of things, too. So use this week to watch my free email strategy training that I sent you last week. I think we can all use an "integration" week :)

Without further ado, take a peak into my summer behind the scenes!

Once you do, hit "reply" and let me know what your top moment/experience of the summer was. If I'm going to share some of my BTS moments, I want to hear about yours, Reader!

💪 01. MOVEMENT

After going to the Hyrox NYC competition on June 1, I decided I wanted in on the action and signed up for Hyrox Chicago this November. That meant my summer unexpectedly turned into one giant Hyrox training sesh... and I'm absolutely loving it!

I started running for the first time, which has meant a lot of time outside, running our beach trails, and through our beautiful neighborhood. I'm having a sweaty blast.

🍅 02. FUEL

My parents died back-to-back right after I moved to Long Island from Philly. I spent most of my first two summers here mourning, crying, driving back and forth to Philly to take care of estate stuff, and just generally trying to get my bearings after my world was turned upside down.

But summer on Long Island is like a dream. And this year, I wanted to take better advantage of summer here -- my first without losing a parent.

One of the ways I like to appreciate summer, and connect with my Dad, is to honor what's local and fresh. I cook lots of delish veggie-forward dinners, including loads of tomatoes, corn, and my new fav, husk cherries.

🎾 03. TENNIS

After my Dad died 2 years ago, I took up tennis as a way to force myself to get dressed and be in the sunshine.

I was excited to get back into it last summer when suddenly, my Mom died, sending me back to the front of the grief line.

I went into this summer wanting tennis to feel a bit lighter and more fun, and a little less like whacking a ball as a means to keep my anger and sadness in check.

I took weekly lessons on Wednesdays and played in our tennis club's Club Championships (I lost in the first round and had so much fun!). (Our tennis club requires you to wear white head-to-toe, I'm not a monster who loves doing laundry lol)

💻 04. WORK

So much of my work for the business this summer was done quietly, behind closed doors, with my phone tucked away... at the library! Why?

Because I wrote and turned in my book!

Now that the full manuscript is in my publisher's hands, I can see why business felt like a total blur this summer. All I did was write, write, write!

Writing a book was so many things: fun, hard, a privilege, quiet...

Thanks to caffeine and lots of NY bagels, I wrote 89k words and submitted my final manuscript in early August. (🫣 current status: waiting to get my manuscript back from the copy editor for a final round of edits!)

Outside of the book, I updated my free legal workshop "5 Steps to Legally Protect & Grow Your Online Business" (you can watch it here!), worked really hard to improve my writing + this newsletter, and got a new website + branding.

📕 05. READ

I'm shocked I read at all, given the fact that I was writing my own book. Honestly, most days I had little energy (let alone creative energy) left to do much else besides write my book, run my business, and workout!

But I managed to squeeze in a few really good reads:

That's a wrap on summer 2024, my friend!

Hit "reply" and tell me what your favorite experience of the summer was! Can't wait to hear from you.

What, specifically, felt good about this summer? How did it feel? What did you like about it? How can you integrate and cultivate that feeling going into autumn and winter?
