How I Squeezed Life's Lemons into A Multi 7-Figure Business

I didn't expect to get taken out at the knees in the refrigerated section of Trader Joe's yesterday when I saw this:

My dad, Norm, loved Trader Joe's.

Ever since he passed away of AML leukemia a few years ago, every time I see a new product he would have LOVED, it's like I got suckered punch between the eyes.

When the imitation-Olive Garden breadsticks came out last year, I nearly stuck one through my heart. Brutal.

My personal month of hell is just a few days away.

Both of my parents died in May.

Two horrible phone calls that narrowed my vision down to the size of a speck of dust. Two panicked 4-hour drives from Long Island to Philly. The last text messages. The last I love you. Their last sips of air.

The last time they told me it'd be OK and I pretended like I believed them so they thought so, too.

Don't even get me started on Mother's Day. My dad died on it. Then my mom died right after.

I hate May.

As soon as April comes around, my grief starts to bloom almost in perfect unison with the buds on the trees. At least no one can tell if I'm crying from the pollen or my heartbreak.

But I also have a business... and a pretty full life. I have lots of household responsibilities, friends to see, hobbies to keep up with, and Huddy (my bernedoodle!) to smother.

I can't, and I never have been able to, just give up.

So while I might not have a little one crawling into my bed in the middle of the night to escape the monsters beneath their bed...

Or understand the woes of passing around daycare's virus du jour to the entire family like a sick game of hot potato...

I've done my time. 🫡

I know what it's like for your business to feel like the least important thing in the world... but you need to pay the bills and plan for the future.

I know what it feels like to quietly want to be successful, have a big email list, make consistent revenue, get recognized for your work... but also feel like it's just not your time (yet).
