I Didn't Have Time to Girlboss
When I walked out of the law firm for the last time on Friday, August 19, 2016, I thought I was on my way to build a successful online health coaching business.
In reality, I had no idea what I was doing.
I did the same things you did --
🌰 I stuffed my inbox with more webinars than a squirrel storing nuts for the winter.
🧘♂️ I started following all of the gurus who seemed to have the secrets to quick success.
And since it was 2016, I became a full-fledged girl boss building her femmepire.

Back then, there was A WAY to do things if you wanted to be successful online.
At least that's what 'they' said.
But right after I started my business, I had brain surgery and a rough 1-year recovery.
The moment I felt better, my dad got leukemia.
🥂 I went from girlbossing it up and toasting my femmepire mug to the idea that women could build independent wealth online to...
💊 Negotiating with big pharma companies to get my dad hundreds of thousands of dollars of experimental drugs per month for free just to keep him alive. (They said yes.)
I didn't have the luxury of building my business the way everybody else was.
I had limited time and even more limited energy.
Slowly, and quietly behind the scenes, I did just that.
I built a multi 7-figure digital products business with puffy eyes from the insides of chemo rooms.
I built it the way everyone else say you couldn't because I had to.
Thanks to all my life stuff, I didn't go to the big conferences or get to network.
Plus, I sold legal templates... the cool kids weren't exactly knocking down my door.
Honestly, that didn't change until I came out with my book last year.
But sitting here nearly ten years later, you're in a very different industry than the one I "came up" in.
Not that things are perfect... that's for sure...
But I do think a lot of the toxicity is being dismantled.
New rules are being written.
There are so many more ways to build your business now than what was 'acceptable' when I started.
❌ You don't have to do webinars anymore if you don't want to.
❌ Or have 3 levels of your coaching program.
❌ You don't even have to be on social media if you don't want to!
On the one hand, the freedom is delicious.
On the other, it feels really overwhelming.
Like you don't know where to start, what to focus on, or who to trust.
So three months ago, when my friend and copywriter-superstar, Tarzan Kay, asked me to speak at The Girlboss Apology Tour, I told her...
"I'm in! But I don't know if I'm sorry..."
She quickly explained: "That's not what this is all about. We're here to share mistakes from a place of curiosity, not shame. To help the next generation.
In general, I don't apologize for doing what I thought was best at the time (unless, of course, I hurt someone).
I did what I could with what I had when I had it.
It's what we all do.
Tarzan's Girlboss Apology Tour is actually a 3-day (free!) virtual summit with interviews from coaches, creatives, and creators like me.
We talk about the true cost of success, the future of digital courses/sales, and what we'd do differently building our businesses today.
There are so many ways for you to build a successful online business today, Reader.
It starts with seeing someone modeling what you want.
The 14 speakers Tarzan gathered for The Girlboss Apology Tour are a great start.
🎤 If that sounds like something you want, grab your free ticket here→ (and bring a friend!).
The Tour starts on April 13, and you’re going to want to make space in your calendar for this.
It also includes THREE LIVE EVENTS where Tarzan's bringing people together to talk about where we’ve been, what you may want to leave behind, and where you want to claim for yourself as you grow your business.
I’ve known Tarzan for 4 years. I trust her when it comes to facilitating big conversations with care. I know she will make this event incredibly special.
